Stereocilia
2nd single from debut album “Oceans on Azimuth”
New single ‘Stereocilia’ emerges from the depths of the cochlea, the fluttering voice haunts the listener as if hearing the past. The voice in duet with the Claravox theremin recalling the shellac phonograph and tone from gramophone.
“With the lyrics on 'Stereocilia' I entered the domain of the hair cell and considered the movement of hair cell bundles riding the sound waves and their position on Azimuth as if locked on an orbit. The stereocilia float amongst the waves converting physical force to electrical energy against and with the axis as it swirls, rotates and rebalances from our head movements dancing through space.
Harnessing my own physical energy conversion, my voice is in a duet with the Claravox theremin - an instrument which recalls the essence of the violinist turned thereminist Clara Rockmore. My arms seemingly play the air, invisibly interfering and fluctuating electromagnetic waves. The reinvention of the Claravox offered a realm of sound outside of the classic intonation we recall, pushing into experimental and improvisational growling expression.”
